LOUNGE.  This upscale steak and seafood house is great for meet-ups, sitting, drinking and eating a serious steak with friends and the Raw Bar is excellent!  The location is a commodious room, very spacious with sky high ceilings and rooms to spare for multiple events.

Last weekend, February 17-19, at the Sheraton Philadelphia Hotel nearly 1000 college and graduate students gathered from across the Nation to attend the 26th Annual National Conference on Higher Education.

The conference is a very positive effort to increase enrollment of under represented students in graduate and professional schools with accomplished public and private individuals leading the roster.

After being closed three years for renovations the Philadelphia History Museum at the Atwater Kent opens to the public.  This location is the original home of the Franklin Institute and has gone through a $5.8 million renovation to it’s historic 1826 structure, designed by John Haviland.

Phase I includes a renovated building, a welcome foyer and two new exhibitions, City Stories: An Introduction to Philadelphia and Philadelphia Voices: The Community History Gallery.  These exhibitions will be free and open to the public Wednesday thru Saturday 11 a.m to 4 p.m.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been to an event just to enjoy; I’m always working it.  I saw Rumer at the World Cafe Live last year but for some reason this time the clarity of her voice beckon me to another time and era when I was younger and influenced with all kinds of crazy music, experiences and loves.

On My Way Home

I was quiet, wild, militant, totally against authority but secretly in love (Yikes!) with Karen Carpenter‘s voice it was an anchor for me.  Her voice, particularly with “We’ve Only Just Begun“, was the essence of harmony for me and lyrically understood to the soul also the look of Karen seemed unearthly; she didn’t stay long.

I think Rumer will be an anchor for many in this 2012 and I hope she stays for a while.

FEBRUARY 3, 2012, FRIDAY.  SportsRadio 94 WIP‘s Wing Bowl XX at the Wells Fargo Center. Contained, organized (almost irresistible visual) madness!  The Wing Bowl is a desert if you don’t drink beer just about everyone in attendance has or is imbibing on the stuff and is in full revelry mode; All 20,000+ people.

This year I did not work in the pit (where the primary focus is) I pretty much stayed in the lobby photographing The Green Legion’s Calendar Girls, but even in the halls and lobbies you can feel the festivity, jollity, merriment and gaiety of the Wing Bowl.

Kobayashi kicked butt this year shattering all previous Wing Bowl records by “downing” 336 chicken wings; amazing what this skinny guy can do.  Kobayashi won $20,000 for this feat; this was his first competition at the Wing Bowl.

People tailgate for this event they begin queuing outside the perimeter of the stadium around 2:00am (doors opens at 5:00am) and it’s like a sports event with 20 somethings and scantily-clad “Wingettes“, all the Gentilemen Clubs’ Wingettes in Philadelphia, and all kinds of flamboyant local characters; you gotta see it.  AND, after this event there are parties ALL over town starting at 11:00am… simply amazing.

This years Wing Bowl XX also set a record for number of Wingettes with 127 in attendance. The Wingette of the year was Nicole who won a 2012 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 motorcycle from Wing Bowl sponsor Barb’s Harley-Davidson of Mount Ephraim, New Jersey. The local Philadelphia winner was runner-up Jonathan “Super” Squibb who won a Chevy Camaro.

Last night the Philadelphia Auto Show festivities kicked-off with its annual Black Tie Tailgate at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Individuals took the first look at the hundreds of exotic cars, classic automobiles, new production vehicles, concept models and tuners on display at the show it was fantastic.
