CENTER CITY | CITYSPACE
FRIDAY. SURFACE Viaducts of Fashion Fundraiser presenting the work of Bela Shehu and Melissa D’Agostino in an exclusive fashion show at CITYSPACE, 2200 Walnut street.
Bela Shehu and Melissa D’Agostino, two Philadelphia designers have established their artistic skills, creativity and commitment to the City’s chic “in crowd..”. Viaduct (is a similar project to the High Line in NYC) held an exclusive soiree at CITY SPACE (2200 Walnut Street), Saturday, April 5, 2013. The event, “SURFACE Viaducts of Fashion Fundraiser“, was very informative and united fashion with public open green space; The Reading Viaduct Project.
Telling the story was an exhibition by Julia Blaukopf based on her recent photographs of the old elevated train track (built in the 1890’s) that transects 3.1 miles of diverse and rapidly redeveloping neighborhoods just north of the traditional boundary of Center City.
Julia Blaukopf’s work focuses on visual storytelling through photographs, mixed media works, large-scale fabric scrims, and many other mediums; more informative than words or context.
The Reading Viaduct Project is dedicated to the preservation and remediation of The Reading Viaduct as a public open green space. Its creation will provide a unique, elevated linear park. The new site will attract residents of the Greater Philadelphia area and visitors to it.
SURFACE is in support VIADUCTgreene, a 501(c)(3) organization, advocates for the preservation of the elevated 9th Street Branch [“Reading Viaduct”] and City Branch rail cut of the former Philadelphia and Reading Railroad and seeks to transform this soaring and submersive landscape into a three-mile linear gardenpark and recreation path through several neighborhoods, connecting to Fairmount Park and a number of major cultural destinations.
